Imagine being 11 years old again. What a joyous age. Life was so simple back then, especially summer days. Exploring your neighborhood hideouts, walking to the closest convenience store for soda and candy, or playing kick the can or ghost in the graveyard till midnight. Ahhh those were the good old days. Not for Liam though. Not this summer. He will never again get his 11 year old summer back. Although we are doing everything as his parents to make him comfortable, this is not how he is spending his summer. He has been on the toilet probably 30 times today. I can see it wearing on him. I can see it taking his toll on not only his frail little body but his spirit too. Screw you Crohn’s!! Why are you stealing this summer from him, this life? This is so unfair!! He doesn’t deserve this. He is the most amazing kid and you are breaking him, breaking us. People don’t see these daily struggles for people with this horrible disease. They don’t see the memories and moments that are missed because he can’t be away from a toilet longer than a half hour. The moment that he puts something in his mouth, he literally gets up to go to the bathroom. We are going on 2 weeks of this now and although he is getting infused with a biological drug on Wednesday that may help him for a couple of weeks, we are stuck. Stuck home, stuck near a toilet and stuck without a cure.
